The German Wind Energy Institute – DEWI (Deutsches Windenergie Institut GmbH), is one of the leading international companies in the field of wind energy. The institute performs services and consultancies based on the work experience for more than 630 clients worldwide. DEWI is commercially active in 34 countries and more than 25% of the DEWI clients are from abroad. The company’s activities include all kinds of wind energy related measurement services, energy analysis and studies, further education, technological, economical and political consultancy for industry, wind farm developers, banks, governments and public administrations. The DEWI Group has 62 employees today, mostly are mechanical, aeronautical, electrical engineers, physicists and economists, which covers the wide range of the company’s activities. The turnover in 2004 was 4’100’000 EUR.

With the bi-annual German Wind Energy Conference called DEWEK, the DEWI-Magazine and the wind energy courses, DEWI helps to disseminate the newest wind energy knowledge worldwide.

DEWI performs all kinds of measurement and consultancy services especially considering the difficulties of complex terrain sites.

DEWI’s research is concentrated on applied research aiming at the improvement of measurements, design and assessment methods and techniques in wind energy. Since 1992 more than 50 research projects have been conducted in co-operation with institutes from 12 European countries.

DEWI has a profound background knowledge of the modelling topics addressed in the project from a scientific and application point of view. DEWI was applying different diagnostic models (e.g. Aiolos, CRES-3DBL, Lincom, WASP) as well as prognostic micro scale (Phoenics) and meso scale models (GESIMA, MM5) for siting purposes in coastal and mountainous areas.

Participant’s role

DEWI as one of the international leading company for evaluation of wind data will coordinate and lead all relevant tasks regarding evaluation, analysis and interpretation of data. First of all, in cooperation with Energiewerkstatt, Meteotest and the wind turbines operating companies involved in the project like Adria Wind Power, Masurica and Vjetroenergetika BH d.o.o.. DEWI will play a key role in the project.
