{"id":185,"date":"2014-05-11T10:38:05","date_gmt":"2014-05-11T08:38:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.seewind.org\/wp\/?page_id=185"},"modified":"2025-08-05T13:52:56","modified_gmt":"2025-08-05T11:52:56","slug":"wp-4-vertical-wind-profile-in-complex-terrain","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.seewind.org\/?page_id=185","title":{"rendered":"WP 4 &#8211; Vertical wind profile in complex terrain"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Objectives<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>To measure and analyse the vertical wind profile with SODAR (SOund Detecting and Ranging).<\/li>\n<li>To investigate the temporal evolution of the vertical wind profile during Bora events.<\/li>\n<li>To determine the suitability of LIDAR (LIght Detecting and Ranging) for the evaluation of the vertical wind profile in complex terrain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Description of work<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>SODAR measurements<br \/>\nSODAR measurements are performed for 4\u20136 months in 1\u20132 locations at the Podvelez site.<br \/>\nSODAR measurements are performed for 1\u20132 months in 1 location at both the Rudine II and the Vlasina site.<br \/>\nThe typical vertical profile of wind speed is analysed for different wind speeds and directions.<br \/>\nThe results obtained are put into context with the specific characteristics of the local terrain.<\/li>\n<li>Temporal evolution of wind profile during Bora events<br \/>\nTime series of the vertical wind profile during Bora events are analysed.<br \/>\nTypical patterns in the evolution of the vertical profile during Bora events are investigated.<br \/>\nThe patterns obtained are put into context with the local wind systems (WP 4).<\/li>\n<li>LIDAR measurements<br \/>\nLIDAR measurements are performed at the SODAR locations (parallel to SODAR measurements) for 2\u20134 weeks at Podvelez (BiH) and 1\u20132 weeks at both the Rudine (HR) and the Vlasina (SCG) site.<br \/>\nThe typical vertical profile of wind speed is analysed and compared to the SODAR results.<br \/>\nThe suitability of LIDAR for measuring the vertical profile on wind speed in complex terrain is rated on the basis of experience obtained from the measurement campaign and data analyzed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>WP-Responsibility<\/h3>\n<p><a title=\"Meteotest (MET-SW)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.seewind.org\/wp\/?page_id=80\">Meteotest<\/a> is the leader of the work package &#8218;Vertical wind profile in complex terrain&#8216;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Objectives To measure and analyse the vertical wind profile with SODAR (SOund Detecting and Ranging).
