Energiewerkstatt Association (EWS) is an independent engineering company and was established in 1987. At present the company has 6 employees and a turnover of € 500.000. The company engages in the use of renewable energy sources, especially Wind Energy and Biomass and is specialized in developing wind power plants and carrying out wind measurements in mountainous areas with complex terrain and severe climate conditions. The main attention of the research work is focused in testing instruments for investigating the wind conditions at sites with heavy icing and complex terrain and gaining experience in operating wind power plants under severe conditions in mountainous areas. Energiewerkstatt was responsible for carrying out different Research projects in the concerning topic like “Tauernwindpark Oberzeiring”, Measurements and planning requirements, Altener, Contract N°XVII/4.1030/A/98-296, “Tauernwindpark Oberzeiring”, construction of a wind farm at an alpine sites with severe weather conditions”, 5th frame work programme, Contract No. NNE5-1999-00629 and “Windpark Sternwald”, Measurements and planning requirements for the construction of a wind power plant at the border between the Austrian Federal state Upper Austria and Southern Bohemia (Czech Republic), Interreg IIIA. EWS was also participating at the Interreg IIIB Project “Alpine Wind Harvest” which concerned the implementation of Wind Power Plants in the Alpine Regions of Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Trentiono Alto Adige (Italy) and Rhone Alps (France).

Participant’s role:

EWS is the project coordinator and will lead together with DEWI the relevant tasks regarding collection and evaluation of the wind data from the three sites. It will participate as well in the site development and power curve measurement; create the wind profiles in complex terrain and the dissemination of the project’s results.
